MoFo '14 Day 10 - Earth Balance Cheddar Flavor Kettle Chips

Hey MoFo's! I'm home! I've been in Austin for the last 12 days hanging with vegans, eating tacos, catching some sun and, of course, picking up some exciting cheese based products. Oh and I threw some chocolate in there for variety too. I'm really excited about everything I have planned for the blog this month, and not just because I get to eat my way through my stash of American vegan products! There'll be a competition for my pals based in the UK & ROI and some fun cheese based hang outs with friends. I'll also have loads more time to read and comment on blogs. Yay! Today I have another Earth Balance product review for ya...

For some reason I was far less excited about Earth Balance's new Cheddar Flavor Kettle Chips than I was about their Cheddar Flavor Crackers (reviewed here yesterday). Maybe that's because I've never eaten cheesy crisps before so I haven't felt like something was missing or maybe it's because I just straight up love ready salted, or even better lightly salted, crisps. Perhaps I'm just a boring crisp person? Whatev's. I'm totally okay with that! I'm also going to keep calling them crisps despite both Earth Balance and some of you knowing this product as chips - leaving the u out of flavour is kinda breaking me so you'll just have to deal.

Anyway despite my lack of excitement about these crisps it is MoFo and it is International Cheese and Chocolate Month so I felt compelled to try them, because, cheese. Besides it's always good to have some snacks around whilst you're travelling. They have the added bonus of not melting in a hot car which is necessary in Austin. My usual Caramel Nut Brownie Luna bars did not fare so well in the car in case you were wondering.

Anyway I bought them, Nick and I ate some and then we popped a food clip on them and didn't go back until we were starving on our flight home thanks to BA's epic VGML fuck up. (Cheese! Butter! No dessert! A teeny tiny fruit plate for breakfast. Not cool BA.) Anyway, I think this says a lot about how much we really liked these. Usually we'll devour a whole bag of crisps this size in one sitting easily. It's definitely not that they're bad but I think I just want my crisps to taste at least a little like potato and not just like cheese. Which is kinda weird and to be honest a little unexpected, I usually want everything to taste of cheese. What is it they say? You learn so much about yourself when you travel! Haha!

  1. I wasn't crazy stoked to try them (I was more excited about the Sour Cream and Onion chips!), but I ended up like them when I finally got some. But they're really intense! I can only eat a few at time.

    1. Yes, intense is totally the word I was looking for! I want crisps I can eat all of at once dammit!

  2. I've had the sour cream and onion ones and liked them a lot, but I haven't tried this flavor yet. Like you, I was never really into cheese flavored potato chips. I'm glad that you had them in a pinch at the airport, but it's too bad they weren't more inspiring for you. I look forward to hearing about your other vegan bounty!

  3. Flights are so hit and miss with vegan food! I had just black tea for my breakfast when I flew home from America a few years back, because they had no fruit left and didnt realise I couldn't eat an egg sandwich.

I bet those crisps would go really well if you crumbled them on top of mac and cheese instead of breadcrumbs though!

  7. I feel for you on the BA flight- when we were flying back with them from New York last year, all I got given was two fruit salads (the way there was great). I was glad I'd managed to grab something at the airport.
