Violife slices are definitely my favourite UK available cheese for sandwiches. They come in pre-sliced packs, 10 slices per pack, and they make 12 different varieties including Pizza, Olive, Cheddar, Tomato & Basil and their two newest flavours Mozzarella and Smoked. The Cheddar is my favourite and I often use it to make a delicious sandwich at lunchtime.
This one's made with local organic lettuce, dairy free margarine and an Infinity Foods bakery seeded white bun.
It's a perfect sandwich and one I make over and over. I vary the type of lettuce and bun depending on my mood!
That is one very pretty sandwich.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could get more cheeses here, Tofutti slices are the only ones that are available (Mozzarella and American flavours). I do quite like Sheese sliced on a sandwich, though.
I mean Tofutti is the only type of cheese SLICES we have here.
DeleteWe have other cheeses, just not nice little slices like the Violife.
And just not as many types in general as the UK and USA, though we did just get Daiya.
Ooh I've heard of violife but never tried it. I think I had their pizza cheese and it was wonderful (almost fooled my vegetarian husband!) - I'll have to give the slices a go.
ReplyDeleteI must try this cheese on my next trip in the U.K. I guess you find it in health food stores?
ReplyDeleteI love violife too. I'm stocking up next time I'm in brighton! :)
ReplyDeleteI just had a Violife sandwich with Vitalite spread and some mango chutney! Yum!
ReplyDeleteViolife have definitely upped the sliced vegan cheese game in the UK. I'm lucky to have V Revolution in the next street to work to get my fix!
ReplyDeleteI was never a big cheese eater prior to going vegan, but now that I have I'm all about using Nutritional Yeast as Parmesan (the only real cheese I ate before the switch). It makes dishes so creamy and "cheesy"!

So, so jealous of those slices! I do miss a good old plain cheese sandwich and the only "slices" I have here are daiya. They are pretty good melted but I can't just slap them on bread.
ReplyDeleteCan't beat a classic cheese sandwich. Those Violife slices come in so many different flavors! Our local grocery store has only two sliced vegan cheese choices: cheddar and American. I can't complain though - at least they have something!
ReplyDeleteYour seedy bun looks so yummy too!
It's funny, I just finished watching an episode of Gavin and Stacey where they were all in church and the vicar was asking his congregation what their favorite sandwich was. And then I popped over here and you had a sandwich post! :)
Wow, so many cool sounding cheeses! I love simple meals!
ReplyDeleteThose slices are great, I tried the cream cheese at a trade show and it was incredible!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there was olive cheese! This changes everything!
ReplyDeleteYum! It's so simple and yet so delicious. I don't think I've ever had a non-grilled cheese sandwich. Must try. Also, super-jelly that you have pizza cheese over there.
ReplyDeleteI really hope my test comment didn't go through.
ReplyDeleteViolife cheeses are amazing. The pizza slices are just so freaking good, and I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying some when I had the chance this afternoon. I've had nearly every non-nut based vegan cheese, and I feel confident saying Violife is the best I've ever had.
I wish I could try Violife! One day they will make their way to Australia (hopefully).
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of putting three slices of cheese in a sandwich to really make it a cheese sandwich. It must be quite something with that seeded bun.
ReplyDeleteThe sheer variety of vegan cheese is a reason I have to make a visit to Europe. While I have readily available stuff here, it is almost always just three flavors.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't tried Violife! I don't know how this has happened. Your post reminded me again that I need to go buy some!
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect sandwich indeed. The seeded bun makes it perfect. I cannot really get into violife as I always think the cheese slices just taste like margarine. But I love them on sandwiches as they turn into a substitute both for the cheese and the butter, ha.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm I recently discovered Violife after hearing many good things, and I can't get enough of it! It's great!
