OPERATION ICING

OPERATION ICING IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS WHILST I TRAVEL.

Operation Icing is my not-for profit vegan bakery. You can order my cupcakes online from my website for collection in the North Laine area of Brighton or for delivery within central Brighton.

Why did you open a not for profit bakery I hear you ask? Well, I'd been vegan for about three years when I decided that I wanted to work for a vegan business and to raise money to help animals. I considered moving to the countryside to set up an animal sanctuary or opening up my home as a vegan bed and breakfast but I finally settled upon opening a vegan bakery. If you're a regular reader of my blog you'll know how much I love Brighton so I love that this is something I can do within my own community.

It took me a while to figure out how to make this goal align with my plan to raise money for the animals but it finally hit me when I was trying to organise a vegan bake sale. I wanted to start a not-for profit bakery!

Not only does this help animals because I donate 100% of my profits to animal charities but it also gives the people of Brighton a way to get their hands on delicious cruelty free baked goods from a totally vegan company. I think Isa Chandra Moskowitz coined the phrase Baketivism and I love it, I think it really sums up what I'm trying to do.

I currently donate money to four charities...

Sea Shepherd, an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organisation. Their mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the worlds oceans. I have always wanted to volunteer to be part of the crew on a Sea Shepherd ship but I get horrifically sea sick and I'm terrified of water so I think I'd be more of a hinderance than a help, raising money to support them this was is a much better idea.

The East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service, are a local charity who provide a front line rescue service for wildlife casualties. WRAS deal with calls from both the public and other animal welfare organisations and they are staffed entirely by volunteers.

The Monkey Sanctuary, is based in Looe Bay in Cornwall and they specialise in rescuing monkeys from the trade in primates as pets. The Monkey Sanctuary is one of my favourite places to visit, in part because of the cute monkeys and in part because their cafe makes a kick ass vegan burger.

Raystede Animal Sanctuary, located in Uckfield have been caring for animals for over 60 years and help to re-home many dogs, cats and small animals as well as incorporating a wildlife hospital and offering lifelong homes to goats, ponies, horses and donkeys. They also run Pet Link, a fostering service for families fleeing domestic abuse.

Operation Icing have also baked cupcakes for many local fundraisers including The Poppy Project, Brighton Pro Choice, The Brighton Feminist Collective and Survivor's Network so feel free to drop me an e-mail if you need help fundraising for your charity.

Whether you live in Brighton or you're just visiting please consider helping the animals by ordering some of my cupcakes. Your orders are what keep my business going and without them Operation Icing would cease to exist which would make me a sad panda. You can now order cakes in boxes of 6 and up and I've previously baked for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and hen parties.
