We started the day with a sandwich from Ike's place. We got the PeeWee which is stuffed with vegan turkey, poppyseed slaw and Swiss cheese. Their sandwiches all come with a hot sauce which we didn't realise until after we'd ordered - it was a good thing we didn't notice though because if we had we might have opted to leave it off and it was deeeelicious!
After the sandwich we headed to a classic breakfast location, Bi-Rite Creamery, for ice cream. The vegan flavour is chocolate coconut and we topped ours with Newman O's.
After this we chilled in Mission Dolores Park before heading to Valencia Street where we couldn't resist a taco from The Little Chihuahua.
Given my chilli issues I'm not 100% sure a Green Chilli Tofu Taco was a great idea but I can't resist tofu and despite the epic mouth burn factor of this taco we really enjoyed it!
Hope you're having a great weekend catch ya tomorrow for Mac & Cheese Monday - if anyone knows of a great mac & cheese spot in the Bay Area lemme know!
Looks like a fantastic FFS day! How was Japan town? I haven't been there for ages. Mmmmm, these Peewee look incredibly delish with the poppyseed slaw!
ReplyDeleteohh yum!!! i too am a frequent mouth burn sufferer! cannot help it!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Homeroom in Oakland would be a good spot for mac&cheese! You can get mix-ins too. Never had their vegan stuff though, so ymmv.
ReplyDeleteIke's is so good! I want that sandwich!
ReplyDeleteI think that place in Oakland called Souley Vegan probably has good mac n cheese - though I've never been there! It's all american soul food, and people rave about it!
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across that ice cream shop when I was in SF without knowing that it even existed and it was such a happy moment to have spontaneous vegan ice cream!
ReplyDeleteSource has a mac and cheese, have you been there? I've been there once but was fairly full so I just had a hot dog. I don't know what the mac and cheese is actually like, but people were getting excited about it.
I want that ice cream right here and now! Hope you're watching the game. 49ers could use some support!
ReplyDeleteThere should be some sort of filter that comes up on travel posts: 'warning, this post will make you drool over food that is thousands of miles away'! That ice cream looks supreme.
ReplyDeleteThat sandwich...I have no words, just, that sandwich!
ReplyDeleteI don't love Mac and Cheese as much as most vegans, but the one at Source in SF is pretty good. Souley Vegan's is kind of bland.
ReplyDeletePS I am SO JEALOUS of your Little Chihuahua tacos. I miss that place something fierce.
DeleteThose sandwiches look awesome! The roll looks great, all soaked with the slaw and cheese. Just the way a FFS meal should be.
ReplyDeleteHomeroom in Oakland is fantastic! the vegan mac is so good, i've tried and failed many times to re-create it. hope you're having a great time!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying the food around here so far! Ike's is so good!
ReplyDeleteCan't go wrong with an Ike's sandwich! I recently tried the vegan chocolate coconut ice cream at Bi-rite myself, it's so good!
